Profile: David Nesta “Ziggy” Marley, born October 17 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican reggae musician, and eldest son of reggae legend Bob Marley.

Ziggy Marley has had his greatest success with his brother Stephen Marley (who is lead-singer on many of the songs) and his sisters Cedella and Sharon in the band Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers. Legend has it that the band took its name after their father Bob was the cover picture of the British music magazine Melody Maker. The band had its most successful years in the late 1990s , including such hits as “Tomorrow People”. The band has won two Grammys in the category “Best Reggae Album” for their discs One Bright Day and Fallen Is Babylon.

During the 2000’s, Ziggy Marley has launched a solo career, and the band the Melody Makers is on hold. In 2003, he released his first solo album Dragonfly, which contained a small radio hit with the song “True to Myself”. In 2006 Ziggy Marley released the album Love Is My Religion. In other work Ziggy Marley is an active philanthropist mostly working with charities that help children. He has also done the voice of a Rasta jellyfish in the animated film Shark Tale.
